Here are some top meaty mains to try: 

  • Grilled chicken breast 
  • Turkey burgers 
  • Fish, like salmon or tuna steaks 
  • Prawns 

They are a much healthier alternative to the humble potato – and the mix of smoky and sweet is an absolute must. 

If you are vegan or vegetarian (or just looking for healthy barbecue ideas), smother some vegetables with a splash of seasoning and throw them onto the grill. 

Courgettes, peppers and even carrots can make sensational sides or tasty mains. 

  • Wrap a banana in foil (with the peel still on) 
  • Place it on the barbecue for a couple of minutes 
  • Let it cool a little, then unwrap it and remove the peel 
  • Sprinkle with nuts and a drizzle of honey, then serve with low-fat cream.
