How to actually relax this summer
There can be quite a lot of pressure this time of year to sit back and relax in the summer, but what if you’re not very good at relaxing?
If you’re the kind of person who has a constant mental to-do list rolling through their head, these tips are for you. And well done for deciding to take some time for you! We understand it’s a lot easier said than done.
Even just taking 30 minutes of your day to give yourself some unwind time can make a big difference to your wellbeing. And if you didn’t know, here at Beezee we are big believers in the power of small changes.
Take a deep breath, and let’s get started.
Why taking time for yourself matters
First, let’s talk about something important: it’s okay to rest. Really! Sometimes we feel bad about taking breaks, but resting is just as important as eating healthy food or getting exercise. When we rest, our bodies get stronger and our minds feel clearer. It’s like charging up your phone – you need to plug it in so it works properly.
Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish. It’s smart. We also understand that relaxing will look different for each person, so find ways that work for you. Remember, you deserve to relax this summer!
Free ways to relax at home

Create a chill corner
Find a quiet spot in your home and make it special. It could be a side of the sofa, prepped with your favourite cushions and a place for a drink. It could be a reading nook in your bedroom. Maybe it’s sitting outside with a refreshing glass of water. Pick a spot where you won’t be tempted to start doing household chores! Remember, this is your time to relax how you like over summer.
Learn something new
If you struggle with sitting still, that’s ok! You could use your rest time to do an activity you find relaxing. This could be cooking a new recipe, reading a book, journaling, or trying out a new craft.
Connect with friends
Maybe relaxing for you involves connecting with others. You could invite a friend over and enjoy the sunshine together. You could even write your friends postcards (from home) just to let them know that you’re thinking about them. Taking the time to nurture your friendships and remembering you’ve got people who care about you can do you so much good!
Go outdoors
Visit your local park
Parks are free and perfect for relaxing in summer. Whether you want to pack a healthy picnic and people-watch. Or if you want to pop on a podcast or read a book. Taking the time to go outdoors and soak in the sunshine can be a great boost for your mental wellbeing.
Go for nature walks
Walking is brilliant for your body and mind. According to the Mental Health Foundation, you can feel the mental health benefits of nature wherever you live, as it has such a wide definition. From parks and forests to trees on streets and river canals. Why not find a nature walk near you?
Take a mindful moment
The mental health charity Mind suggests a mindful moment in nature. You just need yourself and a green space. Explore the space slowly and focus on your senses. What can you see? What can you hear? How does the ground feel under your feet?

How can we help you relax this summer?
This summer, be kind to yourself. Rest when you need to, try new things, and don’t worry about doing everything perfectly. Small moments of joy and relaxation can make a big difference to how you feel.
