Mum and daughter make healthy changes together

Maria and her Mum Lorraine came to Beezee Families to learn about healthy eating, and had plenty of fun along the way!

8-year-old Maria loved a hot chocolate with a chocolate biscuit on the side. She would have this combo most days. Her other favourite snacks were crisps and snacks. Plus, Maria and her mum were both eating lots of processed meals together.

Maria had always been active, packing plenty of activities in every week! From Brownies to swimming and Stage School. She also loved art and making dresses.

Maria’s school sent out leaflets about the free healthy lifestyle programme. Lorriane thought it would be a great way for her daughter to make new friends, try new foods and have fun.

For Lorraine, the most valuable lesson for her and Maria was balanced eating and smart snack swaps. Remember the hot chocolate and biscuits Maria used to love? Our expert nutritionists helped her find tasty, healthier alternatives.

Lorraine said, “Since completing the programme we have improved our snacks – they are much more healthy now. I am also planning out our meals each week and we’re eating more fruit and vegetables.”

Alongside learning about healthy snack swaps, mother and daughter both learned about portion sizes and the importance of understanding nutrition information on food labels.

Beezee Families teaches more than healthy eating, it also encourages families to get more active together.

This was a part of the Beezee Families session Maria particularly enjoyed. Her mum said, “She loved the sports and activities and having the chance to run around and play with new friends!”

Lorraine went on to say, “Maria adored coming to the weekly sessions. The team was so friendly. Overall, Beezee Families was a fantastic opportunity to improve overall health awareness whilst having fun!”
